Tritton Resources

In 2019, due to the prolonged drought, the existing water supply to Tritton Mine was deemed by Water NSW to be no longer viable. Due to extreme low water levels in Burrandong Dam combined with high evaporation losses in the network rivers, creek and channels that provide water to the mine, a hew water source had to be found, otherwise the mine would be forced to close with the loss of 400 jobs.

A design for emergency water supply was developed involving cut-ins to 2 x High Pressure Water Mains between Nyngan and Cobar in central NSW, a pipeline to a new 50ml storage dam, a transfer pump station and a 20k’m pipeline to the mine.

Work undertaken included:

  • Cut-ins to 375mm PN35 DICL pipe and 300mm MSCL pipe
  • Under bore and sleeving of railway crossing
  • Under bore and sleeving of Barrier Highway
  • Under bores as required on 20k’m transfer main
  • Installation of ductile pipe, tees, actuated valves, fittings flowmeter and pits
  • Construction of concrete and rock spillway, overflow and table drains
